Best Floral Dresses for Women for Summer - LoveShackFancy Review - MarieClaire.com Posted: 07 Aug 2019 09:30 AM PDT In our biweekly series, editors share "the item they wear to death," whether it be a basic white tee or a super-trendy jumpsuit. Prepare yourself (and your credit card) for some guilt-free shopping. Peek inside my closet and you'll be able to tell right away that I don't wear a lot of color. In the fall, you can catch me in jeans and a neutral-colored sweater seven days out of the week. Usually, in the summer, I gravitate towards creams and browns. But recently, I did a 180 and started wearing floral print. My current favorite: this LoveShackFancy dress. It's become my summer uniform. This particular piece is more than just a cute prairie dress—it is the dress that opened my eyes to color, florals, and the maxi length, which I once regarded as annoying to wear. (Tripping on your hem as you walk down, or up, the stairs? No thanks.) I decided to give the LoveShackFancy maxi a try, though, because 1) maxis are super popular right now and I'm a fashion editor committed to trying the latest trends and 2) I wanted to see what the big deal was with prairie dresses. As soon as I slipped this dress on, everything felt right. The hem rests just above my ankles, so it doesn't drag or pick up dirt on the ground as I walk. The cap sleeves puff up for a very Disney princess-like feel, while the neckline shows off my collar bones. With it, I wear layers of dainty gold necklaces, which neatly fill in the empty space. I also love the vintage-style shirred bust and the fitted waistband that highlights my midsection. It is extremely flattering and comfortable. I have been wearing this dress to death—literally—this summer (there is a minor rip at the hem...oops?). When the season first began and the weather was above 50 degrees, I paired it with a bootie and a cardigan. Once the heatwave (and humidity) arrived, I swapped the boots for a pair of kitten heel sandals. And, you can bet on me wearing this right up until the first few weeks of fall. The dress will be my last hurrah in breezy summer clothes before I wrap myself up in winter puffer coats. I couldn't resist taking a selfie in the maxi at work, and I've worn this dress on dates with bae and for walks around Madison Square Park, too. It's the perfect-for-all-occasions romantic dress. PSA: Does anyone know a good tailor who can fix the hem? I'd like to wear this floral dress again next summer. Two women accused of using Muslim dress for shoplifting spree - The Telegraph Posted: 07 Aug 2019 10:30 AM PDT Two women in Muslim dress were caught in an apparent attempt to use their outfits to steal dozens of items from a supermarket. The women were stopped by security guards at an Asda branch in Dagenham, East London, after being suspected of trying to leave with an estimated £200 worth of tins of baby formula hidden in their clothing. Video footage taken by a local shopper appeared to show one of the woman taking items from what appeared to be a bag or pouch hidden under the long, black robe she was wearing after being confronted by security staff at the store last Saturday evening. Both women were wearing hijabs and black abayas, the headscarf and loose robe-like garment worn by some Muslim women. At one stage one of the woman pulls up the dress, revealing her tummy and underwear, in what appears to be an attempt to show she is not hiding any more items. The Asda employees can be seen covering their eyes and turning away as the woman walks towards the exit whilst holding up her black dress, leaving behind her a pile of around 20 discarded items. Her actions prompted several onlookers to question whether they were Muslim at all, with some saying no observant woman would either shoplift or expose herself in a similar manner. One Muslim mother of two shopping in the store on Wednesday told The Telegraph: "It's not the first time it's happened, where they dress up in abayas. It's wrong and I've seen it done before all around the world. It's wrong." Another shopper, who herself wears a hijab and abaya, wrote on Twitter: "If she's Muslim or not she's giving us Muslim women a bad light and if she is Muslim then may Allah guide her." Another Twitter user, named only as Abdul, wrote: These people aren't Muslim they're those people who live in and around east London and have exploited the fact that it's predominantly Muslims around here and to be honest Muslims are very generous people in giving towards charity and these frauds know this. Be aware everyone." A senior Muslim community leader, who asked not to be named, told The Telegraph: "It's highly unlikely religious Muslim women would do this, but different Muslims do different things. If these women were Muslim and were attempting to shoplift they certainly should not be doing so. Both these acts, shoplifting and lifting up their dresses, go against what Muslims should be doing in the first place." Asda staff did not immediately report the incident to the police, waiting until yesterday to do so, and the whereabouts of the two women are currently unknown. A spokesperson for Asda said: "We do not tolerate any form of shoplifting and work hard to deter shoplifters from our stores. "All cases of attempted theft are taken seriously and we always work closely with the local police force in the communities we serve. "We are in contact with Dagenham Police about this incident and would like to thank colleagues at our Dagenham store for their quick intervention and response in this case." The Metropolitan Police said its officers were investigating the incident but had made no arrests at this stage. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We are aware of footage circulating on social media of two females having been stopped by staff members at a commercial premises at Merrilands Crescent, Dagenham on suspicion of theft. "The incident occurred on Sunday, 4 August between 19:30hrs and 19:45hrs. The two suspects are suspected of having attempted to steal infant formula. The incident was reported to police at 13:22hrs on Wednesday, 7 August. At this early stage there have been no arrests." |
